If you’re wondering where to stay in Siargao, General Luna is the best area for most first-time visitors. It has the island’s biggest concentration of restaurants, cafés, tours and nightlife, and you won’t need to arrange a ride every time you want dinner.

If surfing is the main reason you’re coming, stay around Cloud 9 and Catangnan. If you’d rather have quieter nights and a more relaxed beach stay, look at Malinao, just south of General Luna.

For hotels, my first pick is Siago Beach Resort for its central General Luna location and beachfront setting. Bravo Beach Resort is a strong alternative if you want to be close to restaurants and the social side of Siargao, while Siargao Bleu Resort & Spa makes more sense if you want a full resort near Cloud 9.

What is the best area to stay in Siargao?

For most people visiting Siargao for the first time, General Luna is the easiest place to stay.

It is the island’s main visitor hub, with the largest choice of restaurants, cafés, bars, tour operators and accommodation. If you don’t want to rent a scooter, staying somewhere central in General Luna can make your trip much easier.

But General Luna isn’t the best choice for everyone.

Choose Cloud 9 or Catangnan if surfing is the priority.

Choose Malinao if you want quieter nights and don’t mind taking a short ride into General Luna.

Choose Pacifico if you deliberately want to get away from the main tourist centre and spend most of your time in the north.

One thing I would not do is book a remote-looking villa simply because it looks peaceful in photos without first checking how you’ll get around. Siargao is spread out, and transport becomes part of your daily routine very quickly.

Best areas to stay in Siargao at a glance

Area Best for Main advantage Main drawback
General Luna First-time visitors Restaurants, tours and nightlife close by Can be busy and noisy
Cloud 9 / Catangnan Surfers Easy access to Cloud 9 and surf breaks Less central for General Luna evenings
Malinao Quiet stays Calmer and more relaxed You’ll usually need transport
Pacifico Slow stays and surfing Quiet northern Siargao Far from General Luna
Santa Fe Longer, quieter stays Residential feel Less convenient without your own transport

1. General Luna: Best area for first-time visitors

If this is your first trip to Siargao, General Luna is where I’d start looking.

This is where you’ll find the island’s biggest concentration of places to eat, drink, book tours and meet other travellers. It also means you have a better chance of being able to walk somewhere for breakfast or dinner instead of arranging transport every time you leave your hotel.

That last point matters.

A lot of Siargao accommodation looks close together on a map, but heat, uneven roads, traffic and limited pavements can make a short-looking walk less appealing than expected.

If you don’t plan to rent a scooter, I would pay more attention to your exact location in General Luna than to whether your hotel has the prettiest pool.

Best hotel in General Luna: Siago Beach Resort

Siago Beach Resort is my top overall pick in Siargao because it solves the biggest accommodation question well: you get a central General Luna base without giving up a beachfront setting.

The resort is on Tourism Road in General Luna, with restaurants and other places within walking distance. It has a pool, restaurant and a range of rooms and suites.

For me, the real advantage is not having to choose between a resort-style stay and being close to town.

Why I’d choose it:

  • Central General Luna location
  • Beachfront setting
  • Pool
  • Restaurant on site
  • Easier access to restaurants and cafés
  • Good option if you don’t want to rent a scooter

Good to know: General Luna is the busiest part of Siargao. If you’re sensitive to noise, check recent reviews for your exact room category and request a quieter room if possible.

Bravo Beach Resort: Best alternative in General Luna

Bravo Beach Resort is another strong choice if location is high on your list.

It is also in central General Luna and combines accommodation with a beachfront restaurant, pool and a social atmosphere.

I’d compare Bravo directly with Siago for your dates.

If one is substantially cheaper, that could make the decision easy. If the prices are close, I’d look at the exact room category, cancellation conditions and recent comments about noise before choosing.

Why I’d choose it:

  • Central General Luna location
  • Beachfront
  • Pool
  • Restaurant on site
  • Easy access to the town’s restaurants and cafés
  • Good for travellers who like a more social atmosphere

Good to know: Bravo is not the hotel I’d automatically choose if absolute peace and quiet is your number-one priority. Its social atmosphere is part of the appeal.

2. Cloud 9 and Catangnan: Best area for surfing

If you’re coming to Siargao mainly to surf, look around Cloud 9 and Catangnan.

Cloud 9 is Siargao’s best-known surf area, and staying nearby makes early starts much easier.

It also saves you from crossing back and forth from central General Luna every time you want to surf.

The trade-off is that you’re not in the heart of General Luna. You can still get there easily enough by local transport, but you lose some of the walk-out-the-door convenience for restaurants and nightlife.

For a surf-focused trip, that can be a very good trade.

Best hotel near Cloud 9: Siargao Bleu Resort & Spa

Siargao Bleu Resort & Spa is the hotel I’d check if you want more of a traditional resort experience near the Cloud 9 side of Siargao.

It has rooms and villas, a large pool, restaurant, spa and other resort facilities, making it a better choice if you actually intend to spend time at your hotel rather than using it purely as somewhere to sleep.

This is also a useful option if a tiny boutique property or homestay isn’t what you want from your holiday.

Why I’d choose it:

  • Close to the Cloud 9 side of the island
  • Full resort facilities
  • Large swimming pool
  • Restaurant and spa
  • Better fit for travellers who want comfort and facilities on site

Good to know: This isn’t the most convenient choice if your evenings revolve around central General Luna. Decide whether you’ll spend more time surfing and relaxing at the resort or going into town.

3. Malinao: Best area for a quieter stay

If General Luna sounds a little too busy, Malinao is one of the first alternatives I’d look at.

It sits south of General Luna and gives you a noticeably quieter base while keeping the main town within reach.

This is a good choice if your idea of an island holiday involves peaceful mornings and quiet evenings rather than being able to walk to ten different bars.

The important question is transport.

If you’re staying in Malinao, assume you’ll need a scooter, tricycle or arranged transport for at least some of your trips into General Luna.

For a short holiday, I’d personally only choose Malinao over General Luna if I specifically wanted the quieter setting.

Best luxury stay in Malinao: Nay Palad Hideaway

Nay Palad Hideaway is in a completely different category from the other hotels in this guide.

This is a high-end hideaway designed around spending time at the property, with dining, activities and experiences forming a major part of the stay.

It makes sense for someone looking for a luxury island escape where the hotel itself is the holiday.

It makes much less sense if your plan is to eat around General Luna every day and spend most of your waking hours elsewhere.

Why I’d choose it:

  • Quiet location away from General Luna
  • High-service luxury experience
  • Designed for travellers who want to stay and relax at the property
  • Strong choice for a special trip

Good to know: This is a premium property. Compare exactly what is included in the rate for your dates before booking, including meals, drinks, transfers, activities and cancellation terms.

4. Pacifico: Best for getting away from General Luna

Pacifico is on the northern side of Siargao and feels like a different trip from staying in General Luna.

It is quieter, surf-focused and much farther from the island’s main restaurant and nightlife scene.

I would choose Pacifico if you specifically want northern Siargao, not because you found a nice-looking hotel there and assumed you could easily pop into General Luna whenever you felt like it.

For a first visit of only a few days, General Luna is usually easier.

For a longer trip, splitting your stay between General Luna and Pacifico can make much more sense.

You get the convenience of the south first, then a few slower days in the north.

5. Santa Fe: Best for a longer, quieter stay

Santa Fe sits north of General Luna and has a more residential feel.

It’s worth considering if you’re staying longer, working remotely or simply want somewhere quieter than central General Luna without heading all the way up to Pacifico.

I would be less likely to recommend it for a first three-night Siargao trip.

For a longer stay, however, being slightly removed from the busiest tourist area can be exactly what you want.

Again, transport matters. This is a much better choice if you’re comfortable arranging rides or renting your own vehicle.

Another hotel worth comparing: Las Palmas Villas & Casitas Siargao

Las Palmas Villas & Casitas Siargao is another General Luna option worth checking if the top three hotels are full or the rates don’t work for your dates.

It sits on Tourism Road and has a pool, restaurant access and a location that keeps you close to the main action.

I’d especially compare it with Siago and Bravo rather than looking at it in isolation.

The best hotel deal in Siargao can change dramatically depending on your dates, so there is little point deciding that one hotel is always “better value” without checking the actual rate you’re being offered.

Should you stay in General Luna or near Cloud 9?

For most first-time visitors, I’d choose General Luna.

Stay in General Luna if you want:

  • More restaurants within easy reach
  • Cafés and bars nearby
  • Easy access to tour operators
  • Less dependence on transport
  • A more social trip

Stay near Cloud 9 if you want:

  • Surfing to be the centre of your trip
  • Easier early-morning access to the surf area
  • A slightly different pace from central General Luna
  • Resort options such as Siargao Bleu

The areas are not enormously far apart, but where you stay affects what you need to do several times every day.

That matters more than shaving a few minutes off a one-off airport transfer.

Do you need a scooter in Siargao?

No, but where you stay becomes much more important if you don’t rent one.

Scooters are one of the most common ways to get around Siargao, but not everyone wants to ride one. If you don’t, staying centrally in General Luna is the easiest solution.

Tricycles and motorcycle taxis are available, and hotels can often help arrange transfers and rides. Availability and prices can vary, particularly later in the evening or when travelling farther around the island.

I would not rent a scooter simply because a travel blog tells you that you “need” one.

If you aren’t an experienced rider, learning on unfamiliar island roads is not a clever way to save a few pesos on transport.

Paying slightly more for a central hotel can be considerably more comfortable.

Is Siargao walkable?

Parts of General Luna are walkable, but I wouldn’t describe Siargao as a walkable destination overall.

Outside the central areas, distances add up quickly.

Road conditions, heat, rain and limited pedestrian infrastructure can also make walking less pleasant than the map suggests.

That’s another reason I like central General Luna for a first visit.

You can walk to more places when you want to, then arrange transport for Cloud 9, beaches and trips farther around the island.

If mobility or long walks are a concern, don’t just check the straight-line distance between your hotel and nearby restaurants. Look at the actual road and ask the hotel about access before you book.

Where should you stay in Siargao if you don’t want nightlife?

Don’t stay right in the busiest part of central General Luna.

Look at Malinao, quieter parts of Catangnan, Santa Fe, or go farther north to Pacifico.

The right choice depends on how isolated you actually want to be.

Malinao keeps you relatively close to General Luna.

Pacifico is better if getting away from General Luna is the point.

Before booking, check recent hotel reviews for noise. A peaceful-looking property can still sit near a bar, restaurant, construction site or busy road.

Where should you stay in Siargao without a scooter?

Central General Luna.

This is one of the easiest decisions in this guide.

If you don’t want to ride a scooter, I’d prioritise being able to walk to breakfast, dinner, cafés and at least some of the services you’ll use regularly.

Siago Beach Resort and Bravo Beach Resort both make sense for this kind of trip.

You can then arrange transport for Cloud 9, tours and days when you want to explore farther away.

Is it worth staying in a beachfront hotel in Siargao?

Sometimes.

But don’t assume “beachfront” automatically means you’ll have a perfect swimming beach directly outside your room.

Siargao’s coastline varies, and reef, tides and surf conditions matter.

I’d book a beachfront hotel because I wanted the setting, views and convenience of being by the water, not because I assumed I’d be swimming directly in front of the hotel every morning.

If swimming is important to you, check the specific beach and current guest comments before paying a large premium for beachfront accommodation.

How many days should you stay in Siargao?

I’d give Siargao at least four or five days if you’re travelling all the way there.

A week gives you much more room to explore without trying to squeeze beaches, surfing, island trips and restaurants into every day.

If you’re staying a week or longer, you could also split the trip.

For example:

  • 4 or 5 nights in General Luna
  • 2 or 3 nights in Pacifico or another quieter area

That gives you two very different sides of Siargao without constantly moving hotels.

What should you check before booking a hotel in Siargao?

Exact location

Don’t judge by the word “Siargao” alone.

A hotel can be on Siargao and still be nowhere near the places you intend to visit every day.

Check the location against General Luna, Cloud 9 and the activities you care about.

Road access

If you have large luggage, mobility concerns or simply don’t fancy dragging a suitcase down a rough side road, ask the hotel what access is like.

Air conditioning

Siargao is hot and humid.

If air conditioning matters to you, verify that your exact room category has it rather than assuming the entire property does.

Hot water

This isn’t something I’d take for granted at every small island property.

Check if it matters to you.

Backup power and Wi-Fi

Power interruptions can happen on islands.

If you need reliable internet or electricity for work, ask the property what backup systems it has and check recent guest reviews.

Noise

Don’t rely on adjectives like “peaceful” in the hotel description.

Look at recent reviews and the surrounding map, particularly in General Luna.

Airport transfer

Ask whether your hotel can arrange an airport transfer and what it currently costs. That removes one job when you arrive.

My pick: where I would stay in Siargao

For a first trip, I’d stay in General Luna and book Siago Beach Resort first.

It gives you the combination I care about most here: central location, restaurants nearby and a beachfront resort feel.

If Siago were expensive for my dates, I’d compare Bravo Beach Resort.

If surfing and resort facilities mattered more than being central, I’d look at Siargao Bleu Resort & Spa near Cloud 9 instead.

And if I wanted silence and serious luxury, I’d stop comparing General Luna hotels altogether and look at Nay Palad Hideaway.

The important thing is to choose the area first.

A great hotel in the wrong part of Siargao can make the whole trip less convenient.
